Inching into Wonderland

Inching into Wonderland by Joyce Wycoff

This is a metaphor for life's journey
where every day we can find new things that inspire, delight ...
or even frighten us.

This image began as a painted,
metal chair seat found on a road trip.
It wanted to play and gradually
transformed into a flower.

The caterpillar left the milkweed plant
she was eating to explore a new flower.

We wonder what she will find as she wanders into a new land on her journey of transformation.

Bottle Memories

Bottle Memories by Joyce Wycoff

Three bottles or one?
As our memories fade into the past, they lose some of their shape and clarity, but often shift colors and take up more space than the present.
Which is real? The glow of the past or the precision of the present?

This piece won the People's Choice award in a show at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art.

Desert Wine

Desert Wine by Joyce Wycoff
"I have been absolutely terrified
every moment of my life
and I have never let
it keep me from doing
a single thing I wanted to do."
~ Georgia O'Keefe

With a giant nod to Georgia, in 2014, while traveling through New Mexico, I discovered two skulls that began to call me into play. This one played with a high desert landscape from the California Sierra.

Compassion

Compassion by Joyce Wycoff
"In the end, it is not the sorrow

Unsung Artist

Unsung Artist by Joyce Wycoff

On a beach at Kiawah Island, S.C., I found a curly weed surrounded by other weeds and grasses.
It called to me but I couldn't get a great image with my camera so it sat in my files for a couple of years before I went back to it with new eyes and new skills.

When I did, I found that by removing the competing foliage and playing in the creative darkroom of Photoshop, what appeared was the brushwork of an unsung artist who had come long before me.

This seems to be one of those paintings where everyone sees something different in it.
What do you see?

Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice by Joyce Wycoff
Off the Wall Moving Sale:  I'm off to Mexico and this piece doesn't get to go.  My loss, your gain. $125, free shipping. 42" square, 5 pieces, printed on metal. Light and easy to hang.

In a time when dinosaurs walked the earth, ammonites swam through the seas in their chambered shells.

66 million years ago, a meteor struck the Yucatan peninsula and devastated 80% of life on earth wiping out the dinosaurs and the ammonites.  An event, however, that left space for the emergence of mammals ... us.

Ammonites are the most commonly found fossil and are prized for their spiral shape and, sometimes, their colorful opalized shells.
This unique and dramatic piece consists of five separate pieces on dye-infused aluminum which are float mounted 1/2" from the wall to create a clean, contemporary look.
When the pieces are separated by a 1" border, it creates a 42" square and becomes a signature piece for your home or office.

Available in various sizes printed on dye-infused aluminum, ready for hanging.

Example: 42"x42"  $1,325 plus shipping.

Clinging Juniper

Clinging Juniper by Joyce Wycoff
There is something about vistas. Being able to see the whole picture, the mountains miles away as well as the grasses at my feet.

There is also something about close-ups. Seeing the tiny details of beauty, the veins in a flower, the fragile mesh of a dragonfly's wing.

The longing to put both of those together led me to create a "both/and" approach. The big picture vista and a close-up of the detail.

This juniper was found outside Bridgeport near the incredible Travertine Hot Springs. Junipers fascinate me with their ability to grow almost anywhere. While playing with a variety of Photoshop techniques and filters, I also wanted to maintain the sense of fragility of life combined with toughness of spirit.

Available in various sizes printed on dye-infused aluminum, ready for hanging.
